Wright’s Detroit Headquarters
The William Wright Co. was based in downtown Detroit and moved its headquarters around West Fort, Woodward, Jefferson, Griswold, and Lafayette frequently in the nineteenth century. From 1879 to 1915, Wright was located on West Fort Street at several different addresses, mostly in historic former homes. This included the period of their Michigan State Capitol contract, when they were at 34 W. Fort St., a commercial block just east of Griswold. Ultimately in 1916, the Wright Co. moved away from downtown to 873 (later 2901) East Jefferson Street, then in 1930 their headquarters headed north and into the Fisher Building, the new iconic tower they helped decorate.
